Cosniceru
The film was presented at Dada Roots, the Dada Centenary Exhibition that opened on December 9, 2016, at the Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu in Toruń, Poland. It was presented again in 2023 at the Constantin Brâncuși Centre of the Craiova Art Museum. A fictional work, the film takes its cue from Zbigniew Rybczyński’s Tango (1981).

At the opening of the Dada Centenary Exhibition at the Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu in Toruń, Poland, I wore the same costume as in the film. Before the event, I was alone in the room where La Strada was being screened, and I staged a short performance for the camera.

I recorded this during the installation of the Dada centenary exhibition. The film La Strada is visible in the recording, but only faintly. Because the room is lit, the projection is barely visible, and the action on screen is difficult to follow in detail. It can still be reconstructed through prior familiarity with the film. As the screening unfolds, the quiet monotony of the scene is interrupted by people entering to remove the ladder; a label is brought in and repositioned, and, at the end, another figure enters with a ladder and turns off the light.

The Pays Age exhibition, hosted by the Craiova Art Museum – Constantin Brâncuși Centre, featured the images The Journey – Destination Unknown mounted back to back and suspended in front of my collage presented at the Eclectic 2.0, the previous exhibition. At the opening in February 2024, the entire installation was concealed behind a black curtain, and a performance took place. The children, accompanied by the audience, made their way across the room wearing the exact costumes and carrying the exact props visible in the photograph, before passing through the black curtain. As the black curtain opened – in a moment worthy of a Houdini illusion – the audience saw that the children had vanished into the photograph itself.
